Silk Screening
Silk Screening Project:We are studying Andy Warhol and his style of art. As an artist, Warhol pushed the boundaries of what is considered art. My composition was influenced by Warhol in that Warhol often used large images and repeated them in different colors. The strongest structures in this piece are gradation through color and repitition through repeating the image. There is also a similarity structure within the image - the sub image in repeated with different lengths and widths. I took a risk with this project by doing a very detailed image which didn't always come out very clear and by layering the colors together so that they mixed on top of each other to create a color in between the original two shades. The image of the perfume bottle reflects consumerism because it is such an expensive, superfluous item, and it is repeated a lot which also reflects consumerism. The image deals with the influence of the media because perfumes are advertised. It also pushes the boundaries of portraiture because it is not a person or group of people; however, there is still a main subject so it is a portrait.
