I did this acrylic painting in the fauvist style by using extremely bright colors that do not match the subject matter. I also tried to emulate the large brush strokes. I was especially inspired by a couple of boat paintings by Derain. For this piece I focused particularly on contrast through the individual brush strokes, the value range, and the complementary colors.

I love the way this turned out! i think you really have an eye for your colors! I know you were trying to keep the painting style really simple which i really like but i think it would be cool to go into the building with a thin sharpie and add a little detail? it looks great!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done! My only comment is the perspective of the boats and the dock as it is "lifting up" just a bit off the water. Otherwise, you did a great job fulfilling your goal of contrast through color intensities and values!
ReplyDeleteLaura this is really cool! The color on the boat looks great! I love how the colors arent the actual colors in the photo
ReplyDeletethe color is superb! now work on that perspective we talked about :)
ReplyDeleteI think the touch ups you've done in the past few days really make this piece even stronger! It just needed that extra little bit of detailing with the shadows and now it's amazing.
