Ambiguous Space. Oil pastels and turpentine. The goal of this piece is to convey ambiguous space. So I drew rooms going back in space in different directions and to different depths. The bright, warm colors come forward and the dull, cool colors recede, showing a sense of space. I retook the picture in better light. It is no longer super orange.

The colors are really strong here even in this lighting! The composition is quite interesting, and all in all I think you handled the oil pastels very well.
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome! I love the composition and the different sizes of the squares make it much more interesting. I love the colors you chose look really great. This is a really good representation of ambiguous space.

ReplyDeleteLaura- This is a great piece for your portfolio. You handled the mark-making so beautifully here and it is so different. It reminds me of a woodcut linoleum print over an oil pastel drawing. Good work and great sensitivity to your medium. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite pieces. I don't know about anyone else but it takes me to some feeling of like old wooden floors, cubbyholes at school, or just some homey security. I can't stop looking at it.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with how you worked texture into your ambiguous space to actually make it affect the depth and angle of each box. I think it's perfect.
