I decided to do a landscape in acrylics inspired by Chuck Close's portrait work. The large majority of the piece is composed of squares. I used a few short lines for detail too fine to be a square. I am thinking about making the red boat house on the edge of the lake more solid looking. I don't really like the way it looks now. Overall, I am happy with the contrast and visual texture.

the open gate works for your style. the greatest contrast is also the gate so you might want to add some more shadows in other areas.
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast in the fence and I see how you could go back into the boat house a little more, but this is wonderful! Very unique, and you can definitely see your voice through it.
ReplyDeleteLaura this looks great. You did a great job problemsolving with opening up the fence and it looks really good. Mrs Danahy is right it actually does look more inviting for some reason. This style is really unique. I havent seen paintings like this. Great JOb!
ReplyDeletethis piece is so good! i love how abstract you made it but it still works and i can see the landscape structure!
ReplyDeleteLaura- This is an ambitious drawing/painting that you have taken on and I appreciate the vision that you are holding to in this artwork. I have two suggestions...1) I agree with your statement that the boat needs to be more developed. I think you can continue to work in the squares and just build them up a bit more for the boat. 2) I think I would push the green values a bit more in the grass. If you had more darks, I think it would add greater visual interest because of enhanced contrast. Overall, however, you should be pleased with the progress of this work - it was not an easy project to complete!
ReplyDeleteThe texture in this piece is so great. I really like the tiny detail in the flowers. Looks great I can even see how your style has evolved and grown over the course of this year.
