Breadth #1

Self Portrait. Pencil and prisma color. I added paper scraps from my photography class last year. I think the background is now less distracting and more integrated with the portrait.

  1. I love how the muscles in the face and the neck really stand out in this portrait. The back ground looks better since you made the shapes 3 dimensional.

  2. Laura this is so good. You did a great job handeling the values in your face and your neck. The grid in the background makes this peice much more interesting because it really contrasts with the realistic portrait.

  3. Laura- Good work on this assignment! You did a very good job planning out the composition and using an organized structure to your advantage. I have two suggestions: 1) Continue to develop the shadows within the whites of your eyes more clearly as it will help your eye to look more like a sphere, and 2) I think your neck needs to be just a bit wider as it looks just slightly out of proportion. I think if you look at it again, you will find too that you might want to use an eraser and pull out some stronger highlights? But, I will leave that up to you! :)

  5. I love your background. I know what you mean as changing so much and your background shows it. my only thing would be your eyes maybe blend the color part a wee so they don't distract form the rest of your piece.
